UVA would like this functionality as well as we have many scholarships/fellowships that require nominations. We have done a work around using a flexible application for faculty to nominate a student and then we "force apply" the student to the appropriate opportunity and have the student submit application materials. It works ok, but we are limited on number of flexible applications we can have active at a time so we cannot offer this as a regular service. It would be great to have nominations be similar to references where they are linked to a student in the system and create a student application record for the appropriate opportunity.
UW Oshkosh would also like this functionality. We have a nomination award that requires students to submit application materials after they've been nominated. We've been able to run that through Academic Works, with the nominator directing the student to apply for the award in the system. We have other nominations that just require a faculty/staff member to submit a nomination form (this would be similar to a reference questionnaire) and then those forms are reviewed by the selection committee. For these awards, we'd need faculty/staff to be able to access a nomination form and to somehow link those nominations to the students' AW account to be able to make an award offer.
Our university has many nomination processes. We have found a few ways to "get around it" but nothing that seems to be universal for them all. Having an access option for "Nominators" much like references, may be helpful. Right now, they still complete most of their nominating procedures outside of the system which damages record retention policies and procedures for scholarships on our end, and relies more on the departments themselves.
I am not sure if Wendy's process is different than ours, but UW Madison is also interested in this type of functionality. In our case, it would be a portal like the review portal (so a limited view into the system) where nominators could enter a student name, award period and name and/or they could see a selection of students qualified for an opportunity and nominate/select their finalist.
Can you tell us a little more about your nomination process? Who makes the nominations? Would the qualifications be similar to other scholarships? Do applicants need to apply after being nominated? Any details you can give would be helpful. Thank you!

UW Madison is still very interested in this functionality.

Thanks, Wendy!
