Clearer Error Messages

The current error messages (for using Internet Explorer, not answering a question, wrong upload file type, etc.) can be small and easy to miss for users. A pop up, or larger error message would help users see their error and navigate the system more easily.

This is similar to SMM-I-1332 that I've posted on twice this month, but I just wanted to add a comment to this one too. Any development to either a) allow for punctuation in file names or b) a much clearer error message for that error that helps users fix the issue would save us A LOT of time answering these inquiries

I agree with Keith, Reference Users and Applicant Users are informed about and upload error messages.

This application could not be updat

    ed because of 1 error:

    • 'Upload a current resume that includes ALL previous institutions of higher education attended, leadership roles, work experience and/or volunteer experience.' Only one period (.) is permitted in the filename.

it seems from a Reference/Applicant user perspective on their computer the user may only see a file name such as ie. "testing (word document)" and uploading this would be acceptable however the users have tried to upload something in the lines of "firstname.lastname" (word document) and is not acceptable because in reality, the file is really "firstname.lastname.doc".

The only resolution which has worked is to advise both users to remove all periods from the file name and then upload the file.

This has been the only working resolution. If the error message to suggest to remove all periods within the file name.

UW-Madison would also like to see this put in place. Our students and references constantly miss the error message re: incorrect file name (i.e. adding extra punctuation to file names for uploads), because it is not prominent enough and is not written clearly. Clearer error messages, especially for some references who may not be as tech-savvy, in a pop-up would greatly help our users.
