For our Private institutions, they award scholarships based on how much Need is remaining for each student. For example, if a students Need is 15000, and you've awarded 10000 to the student through AW, they would like the system to calculate that the student has 5000 in remaining need.

Hi Chanille!
Yes, in most cases, there is a field that will come over in the import file. It can come over by many names, but it usually a number field that holds how much Need is remaining for the student. To go along side that field, most private institutions will also import a field for "Grant Amount", for example. This field contains how much the institution has put towards the students tuition, or other funding that the student has received.
Yes, just about all of my private institutions have much more "student centric" view of awarding. Its a matter of determining how much need a student has, and which funds they need to be awarded in order to cover that Need amount. They have some expectation that the system is automatically awarding students the scholarships based on how much need they have.
Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks!

Hey Brandon, do you know how they know what a students' need is? Is that just an imported field their sending over from their SIS? Do they need to take anything else into consideration, like federal grants, loans or PLUS, and if a student is awarded more, do they need to then go back and adjust those other award amounts that are federal aid, not coming from scholarships?
This sounds like something we should definitely consider as we think about how to do applicant-centric awarding and institutional commitment. Any additional info you have on how they do things is much appreciated, and I would also be happy to jump on a call with the client if they are willing to explain things in more detail!
