Problem: Students are not able to upload files that have special characters in the file name. This prevents students from uploading any file. Jenny Tice specifically mentions that applicants are getting held up at this point and are unsure why their file is not uploading. She would like the ability to upload any pdf/word document with special characters for these applicants experiencing difficulty completing applications.
Note: Despite help text and instructions informing the applicants to change the name of their file, they continue to have this issue.

We do not allow special characters or additional punctuation in file names for security reasons. This helps prevent malicious files from being uploaded to the system.
indiana also requested they be able to use commas in files names for similar reasons
From uoregon:
I got about 20 calls from professors who could not upload a file because it had two pieces of punctuation in it. I added help text, but people are still confused. My help text says: When attaching a file, you must not have any punctuation (comma, period, hyphen) in the name of your file, except for the file extension. (for example, you *may* title your document JohnSmith.pdf but you *cannot* title it John.Smith.pdf or John-Smith.pdf)
