As the system currently works, multiple opportunities may be opened simultaneously within a portfolio for different Financial Aid Years. The Award Periods available to the Opportunity Administrator for awarding will include ALL Financial Aid Years that are active and their associated Award Periods.

We see confusion among our administrators and others regarding which opportunity to select ("Summer", "Fall", or "Spring") and how to know when they should request a new opportunity to be opened for the next Financial Aid Year. The result is that departments and colleges begin awarding for multiple aid years within the same opportunity. It is not possible to award more than once to a student within the same opportunity, and this is often when our administrators bring the issue to our attention.

Although we train personnel on this topic, turnover of staff in departments makes this a continuous source of confusion. We would like to see the "Season" label changed to match the Financial Aid Year, e.g., "2020-2021", rather than "Fall", and only display the Award Periods for that Financial Year.
