Customer wants the ability to send customized rejection emails that are sent en mass, and not ad-hoc emails

Response from customer: Our organization feels it’s very important to email all applicants as soon as a specific opportunity they’ve applied to has ended, and as a result they also really like to personalize those emails with the applicant’s name, which for several of our specific opportunities can take up a LOT of time to do. We would just love something similar to the ‘post acceptance’ email function where we can have the system send out an email when we designate it to, wherein it has fields like ‘insert applicant name’ and ‘the specific opportunity’ they applied to for a more personal touch. This alone would be a huge time-saver & add the personal touch we like.
So, really, they'd like merge fields in the ad-hoc email functionality
Currently, they can write one ad hoc email that can be sent to multiple users. Is there a reason this won't work for them?
